Beltane ‘07

I consider this to be my tribe’s first “official” Beltane celebration. We have made various attempts over the last few years to come up with a maypole design that would really work, and this is the first year we found one (Thanks to Grandpa - who set it up for us!!). We put this together very inexpensively, using old sheets from a thrift store. We cut them into strips and tied them around the top. Grandma put together a wreath that slid down the ribbons as we danced. This being our first real maypole, it was also our first real maypole dance. And we learned alot!! One of the main things being, if you are going to have children involved, pair them up with an adult, otherwise, instead of a dance, you have a bunch of kids randomly going wherever and the adults trying not to trip over them and each other. It was chaotic, but so much fun! It was awesome to see all the girls with their headdresses on and all the guys wearing leafy vines on their heads. It’s amazing to me to think that only a few short years ago, we, as a family, would never have been celebrating together in this way. Things sure have changed. I know that next year will be even better.
